Jack Kenneth Farr

Ken passed away on his birthday while vacationing in Hawaii on Sat. September 4, 2010. I just wanted to take a moment to share a few memories I have of Ken, even though I only knew him a short while. He was always very loving and kind to me. He always had a story or joke to tell, and could always be interested in a cold drink, or piece of licorice. Most visits with him usually concluded with a childhood story of Joel, Rowdy and a horse, and Ken laughing till he cried explaining the funniest parts of Dumb and Dumber, and Mobsters and Mormons to us. Joel is much like his father, very patient but when it comes to the little stuff like opening things, hangers, remotes, cheaply made objects etc.. it had better work the first time. I will never forget coming home one night with them, and when trying to pull in the garage, something was in the way. Ken got out of the car to move it, so we could pull the car in and Kerry explained to us how well Ken was doing keeping his cool, and not getting frustrated with little inconveniences as we watched him move the obstacle out of our way without saying a single word, making a face, or exhibiting any frustration. Once inside he pulled out the parts we had gotten at the hardware store, and went to open the small, overly packaged pieces. No success. Still without voicing any frustration, decided to get the scissors. After trying again for a short while with the scissors, we knew he had enough saying, "who made these piece of crap scissors?! I'd be better off gnawing this package apart with my own teeth!". Needless to say, as Kerry and I made eye contact with a quick smile, he found a knife and opened the package without further ado. It took all my willpower to not laugh out loud, as this situation seemed all too familiar to me. To some, this may seem insignificant and quite odd, but to me, it is one of my favorite memories of Ken. We will greatly miss him, his belly laugh and smile, and his strength and unwavering faith for what he believed in. I am grateful for the short opportunity I had to spend time with him, and to have him as my father-in-law.
